Two of the Polaris subs were named after Confederate Generals (but
only 1 Union General). Besides all of the US political and military
leaders from the American Revolution to WWII, there were a few
outliers, for example

Any "Giuseppe Garibaldi" ship in US Navy?

He was a "liberator" too, and his name had been welcome by
Italian-americans.

Not to change the subject (but I'm going to change the subject) . . .

An interesting WI that I don't recall seeing on my 15+ years on SHWI. What if Horthy dies early? I once started to read his autobiography and was able to make it through the first few chapters. He almost died as a naval cadet--and his older brother did die as a cadet. Both fell from the rigging--his older brother didn't survey; Horthy was very badly injured in his fall but did survive.

No Horthy has minor implications in WWI but this time line starts to become very interesting very quickly in the post war world of Central Europe.

I read the first article and took it seriously.

Then I read the second article (the one with the skipper's speech) and
realized I'd be successfully trolled particularly when I saw the
sidebars...at that point I decided to go silent and pray I wouldn't
get pilloried too much. Better that than compound my embarassment!
