George told Shyamsundara (his lifelong friend from 1969 -2001) who was
a Hare Krishna devotee that he wrote it for Krishna but he put "she"
in the words so people wouldn't think he was a poof (which he amply
displayed he was not!).

In another interview whilst Eric Clapton and George were rehearsing
before their Japan tour he said he did not write it for Pattie - the
one he wrote for her was "Isn't It a Pity".

Pattie said he told her it was for her and he probably did - you know
what men are like, always giving a bunch of flowers when they've been
naughty. As for his affairs i think Pattie knew exactly what she was
getting into (as George sang in "Dark Horse" "I told you when we was
both at the starting gate") but women generally think/hope they can
change a man anyway. However, i don't think it was his liaisons that
bothered her as much as the headlong dive into religion - women she
could compete with but God was not so easy.

Pattie's book was extremely derogatory at several junctures and it did
seem in it that she found it difficult to give George the praise that
she readily heaped on Eric - perhaps because they grew up together and
he far outsripped her development.

i would not take it as gospel as she got an important fact such as the
date of George's passing wrong.
Poor editting no doubt. And i do wonder if she would ever have had the
courage to write it whilst George was alive.

The British Beatles Fan Club ask me to write the critique on it for
them at the time and i was a little less harsh than i could have been
as someone who i knew was a big fan of Pattie's and i didn't want to
distress them. Still, there were some beautiful descriptions of Friar
Park and little anecdotes which were lovely to read so i am glad she
did write it anyway. Also, one thing that came through loud and clear
was how extremely generous George was - she had left George and gone
off with Eric in the July 1974 and went to do her Christmas shopping
in December 1974 to find at the end that her account had been closed
(duhh as it was obviously paid for by George) so she rang George in
distress and he gave her £5000 for her shopping! Notice she could not
ask Eric!

"Ronnie" is a super book (for those who have not read it Ronnie Wood
was one of Pattie Boyd's boyfriends) as it puts the reader slap bang
in the middle of what was going on and actually tells what it must
have been like for the Beatles at certain points of their career with
some little nice anecdotes about George and John.

I second that.
