Erubis+Apache?

Say I want to register a new document type in Apache .erubis which
contains
erubis "data", and i want to serve this content, i.e. similar to .cgi
(but processed via Erubis::Eruby.new()

How to do this?

All I seem to have found out seems to require mod_ruby, but simple ruby
cgi
pages work fine here without mod_ruby so I was wondering whether its
possible
to use i.e. Eruby.new
