I was able to confirm that that wasn't happening on my AMD64.

Although to get this to work I had to patch the extconf.rb that you have
in your gem.
Here's what I replaced it with:
require 'mkmf'
find_library("onig","onig_new")
find_header("oniguruma.h", *%w(/usr/local/include /opt/local/include))
$CFLAGS='-Wall'
create_makefile( "oregexp" )
