Installation Registry write error .netFRAMEWORK key

Roy Wilson

I tried installing odbc.net MSI package. At the end of installation while
registering keys I get an error:

"Could not write value to key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\.NETframework\AssemblyFolders\Microsof
t ODBC .Net Data Provider. Verify that you have sufficient access to that
key, or contact your support personnel."

When I browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\.NETframework\ in
regedit and try to change/make new keys or ANY modifications in this tree I
get the Error: "Cannot edit: Error writing the value's new contents."

I am running windows 2000 as administrator SP1 with VS Enterprise .net.

Any Ideas? When I backed up this tree and tried to import it again I get a
complaint that "Not all data was successfully written to the registry, Some
keys are open by the system or other processes."

Thanks in advance for any pointers here...

Roy.

Use Regedt32 (not Regedit) and navigate to that key. While the parent folder is highlighted, click on Security menu and select Permissions. In the dialog box, you will see all
groups that have permissions on that registry key. Administrators should have Read and FullControl. Other users may have Read only.

I hope this helps!
