How do I build a website where I can store the information in access

Brandon

I am a cop and I am trying to build a personal webpage
where other officers in my dept. can enter in information
and store it in access. I have office xp. I know access
somewhat and frontpage a little. For example: I want to
build a offline website where I can have all our reports
online so that other officers can enter in reports fill
them out save them and print them out and save the
information in access to where they can pull up past
entered reports if needed in frontpage. I really would
appericate any and all information that is given. Also
if anybody knows where I can go to learn how to do this
it would also be appericated. I tried the help wizzard
in front page but with little luck. Thanks in advance.

Hi Brandon,

Because you are a cop, I struggled over your question. I have great
compassion for you guys. You are like garbage collectors who get shot at by
the garbage. Your job is hardly enviable, but very necessary. And I wish I
could help you. But I think the best help I can give you at this point is to
recommend that you find someone with some web programming experience to help
you, because, for your needs, you aren't going to be able to go with a
"plain vanilla" solution. For example, if you are going to transmit police
reports over the Internet, you are going to need SSL (Secure Socket Layer)
to encrypt and decrypt your data as it passes over the network, in order to
prevent interception by criminals with packet sniffers. And if you're
storing this data in Access, your guys aren't going to be editing it in
FrontPage; they will be using a web browser.

I think it's a great idea, BTW. If I had the time to spare, I'd help you
myself. But perhaps someone else on these newsgroups who has the time might
be willing. You can learn something about ASP (which is the technology that
FrontPage uses to create database-connective web pages) on my web site:
http://www.ta.... Perhaps if you post the name of the city where you
work you might find someone who lives there. Another possibility: Bill Gates
has a charitable foundation which you might apply to.

Good luck to you, and God bless you!

In fact, Microsoft wrote a custom application for the Dallas Police
Department to store records on criminals in a common place. Microsoft did
that for the grand cost of . . . $0.00.

Makes you wonder about those people who call Microsoft the "evil empire",
doesn't it.
