Dear all,

I am currently using VS.NET Professional 2002 and am very interested in
testing out the Mobile Internet ToolKit (MIT) and the Smart Device
Extensions (SDE)

I would appreciate it of anyone can help me with a couple of questions
1) Can I install MIT over my current VS.NET Pro 2002 ?
2) Can I install SDE over my current VS.NET Pro 2002 ? If i am not wrong,
this is still in beta versions at the moment. Once they do commercial, does
anyone have any ideas if they can work with VS.NET Pro 2002 or will MS force
you to buy VS.NET 2003 in order to use it.

Thanks for any advice.

William,

You can install Microsoft Mobile Internet Toolkit (MMIT) over Visual Studio
.NET. As for Smart Device Extensions (SDE), I am uncertain at this time of
the system requirements. As the product moves closer to final stages,
there should be more information made available on the website:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/device/sm...

Hope this helps,

I have tried installaing the SDE (Beta 1) on enterprise
edition VS .NET and it works fine. However, the two
platforms supported are - Windows CE (which is Windows CE
.NET) and Pocket PC (which is 2002).

What i am not sure of is how a smartphone application can
be developed using this SDE. Has anyone tried this out.
Please advise.

Hi Nishith,

YOUR QUESTION:
What i am not sure of is how a smartphone application can
be developed using this SDE. Has anyone tried this out.
Please advise.

ANSWER
I will try to find out if any beta support is offered for SDE. Meanwhile,
you might try posting this question to the compact framework newsgroup.

For others reading this:
SDE is Smart Device Extensions. Just as Visual Studio can be used to
program in VB or in C# or in many other languages, SDE will be another
"language" you can use with Visual Studio. The output from SDE will be
applications to be run on devices which use the Compact .NET Framework.

Hi Nishith,

I found out that there is no public support for the beta of SDE. Again, you
might try the compact framework newsgroup
(Microsoft.public.dotnet.framework.compactframework).

Some general info about SDE:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/device/ov...

Announcement that SDE beta support is closed:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/device/s...

Thank you, Mike Moore
