[OT] Now that January is over...

Tom Copeland

...take a look at the stats for the Ruby Windows Installer:

http://rubyforge.org/project/stats/index.php?report=months&gr...

Wow. If this trend continues, we'll have to get a Sun E10K to run
RubyForge :-)

Yours,

Tom

If there are any problems regarding bandwidth, cpu-, space- or other
bottlenecks, I'd be willing to
help out, in terme sof providing (a) mirror(s) for it :)

Kind regards,

Even though I'm glad that Ruby saw this increase in activity in
January, I think it is a bit premature to break out the champagne.
Looking at the stats from the last 30 days (
http://rubyforge.org/project/stats/index.php?report=last_30&gr...
) we can see that the spike was pretty much a one-time thing
(coinciding with the onlamp article and its appearance on Slashdot).
On the good side, it appears to be that after the article the bar has
risen a bit. I'd like to think that it is because of a now larger
userbase.
Cheers!

Yeah, but the point is still that more people are downloading Ruby. Who
cares if it was because of the door-to-door salesmanship of Jon Doe or
because RoR got good press on /.

Bust out the bubbly. It's not like ruby costs us anything, I think we
can splurge a little. Thanks Matz! We love ya all the way from Grand
Rapids, MI USA.

Zach

Tom

Well, I run a major mirror for RubyForge. This is the stats that
I've seen for January. It's slightly differen than the Windows
Installer data shown (as it includes all files over 3Mb on RubyForge
-- and a little of my own stuff):

The number of megabytes in each category indicates how many
megabytes were actually consumed by the specified number of
requests.

2005-01 95,168.0 Mb Total
68,735 Requests
94,748.7 Mb HTTP
68,041 Requests
419.3 Mb FTP

I'm not sure how RubyForge's bandwidth went otherwise, but I think
it would be a good thing to add more mirrors. :)

Oh, there are more users, I'll grant you that (I actually mentioned in
my last paragraph on my previous reply, but I guess I was not too
clear about it ;-) ). I'll still save my bubbly for when I get my
degree, but I'll join you with a (many) pint(s) of stout, how about
that?

And I would as well like to thank Matz for the awesome work he has
been doing, as well as everyone in the Ruby community contributing to
it. Cheers!

Unfortunately the *really* interesting information is not in the logs,
namely a ranked list of the referrers :-(
