System error when connecting to Notes or Access

Kenneth Bohman

When trying to connect to Notes I receive an error message
saying "An unhandled exception of
type 'Microsoft.Data.Odbc.OdbcException' occurred
in 'Microsoft.data.odbc.dll'. I'm using Notes SQL 3.01a
ODBC-driver.

I've tried connectionstrings with DSN=, FileDSN= as well
as the full connectionstring from MSDASC.DataLinks. Also
I've tried on three computers receiving the same error
message.

From previous postings I understand that it is possible to
connect to Lotus Notes, although some other problems
exists.

I've tested with other data sources and encountered the
same problem with Microsoft Access using ODBC instead of
OLEDB.

Most thankful for solutions or hints.

I can't answer the question about Lotus but in regard to Access and ODBC .NET, here is a sample connection string:

Dim nw As OdbcConnection = New OdbcConnection("Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=D:\AccessDB\nwind2k.mdb")

If you are connecting from a web form (ASP.NET) then you may be running into permissions problem where IIS uses the IUSR or IWAM account to access File system
resources and you need the proper permissions for these accounts.

It gets even more complicated if the Access file resides on a remote computer and then you will be running into Double-hop permissions problem.

I hope this helps!
