boot up problem

I have a 3 year old computer with XP Pro.

1. Started XP Pro with disk fromMicrosoft, log on normal
2. Changed configuration for Primary boot up to Auto
3. Saved changes and restarted
4. Message: Primary not detected
5. Changed config to CD/DVD ROM
6. Restarted, message to re-install XP with disk
7. Could not install completely, no HD detected
8. Cannot open Windows. Exit with Ctrl+Alt+Delete
9. Now cannot open any window, black screen

I will stand by for any helpful suggestions or solutions. Thank you.

Looks like your harddisk is on the blink.
Or maybe the IDE or ATA cable (HD to motherboard) is not connected. Maybe
it's the power cable to the HD. Maybe the problem is your motherboard. Check
the HD in another PC or try another HD in your PC.
