If you have Windows Installer 3.1 listed in your Add/Remove programs, try to
uninstall it....if you're like many folks that have kept their PC up to date
you are presented with a list of 100+ programs and a prompt that says "If
KB893803v2 is removed, these programs might not run properly. Do you want
to continue? Yes or No"
1. Why is this an option?
2. Do you really think your garden variety user even understand this?
3. KB893803v2 is so informative
The OS is just full of these "how to screw yourself" instances (as if we
don't have enough problems with security holes and numerious other bugs in
the OS) of poor design judgement, there is NO WAY IN HELL Microsoft are
going to be able to expand their market beyond 20% of the population if they
continue in this direction of ignorance.
And before you jump in on the "well switch to Linux then or Mac or whatever"
that is NOT the point, the point is for developers and users alike -- you
increase market penetration and you increase usage and you increase the flow
of money and you have more developers employed, etc. etc. Submitting to
the garbage that Microsoft pass off as an OS or productivity tools or dev
tools IS the problem -- there is this 80% of the world population that
Microsoft seem content NOT dealing with. Sure, they maybe slow users, they
may not be the smartest users, they may be poor users, but this is NO excuse
to produce a piss OS, and piss development tool to go with it. It's your OS
Microsoft, so take some freakin' responsibility for it.
