2Unknown Error

The installation of dotnetfx.exe 2.0 on a Windows member Server 2003
ends with a message:

2Unknown Error.

After pressing "Finish", the message: "Microsoft .NET 2.0 has
encountered an error during setup. Setup did not complete correctly" is
shown.

There is NO directory in C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\V2.0.. or
other signs of a successful installation.

Still, the application log shows event 11707, Product: Microsoft .NET
Framework 2.0 -- Installation completed successfully.

Any idea what could be the issue?

My first attempt was using remote desktop. After logging in to the
server directly, the dotnetfx setup ran without problems.

I would encourage the authors of the installer to end the setup a
little more graceful after this error and at least show an error
message indicating the problem.

I'm in the same boat, but I have yet to find a solution to my "Unknown
Error" during a Windows Service install. I'm beyond the point of
frustration -- closer to walking away from M$ development than ever before,
VS 2005 is just complete junk!

I thought VS 2003 was buggy and poorly documented, but VS 2005 makes me want
to go back to VS 2003.
