The hard way solution to uninstall .NET Framework 1.0.2914
I worked through the advice from Patrick Steele but it did
not help me. (Those tips are for cleaning up Visual
Studio .NET Beta installations).
First after 2 hours work of cleaning up the registry
for .NET Framework 1.0.2914 entries, I was finally rid
of .NET Framework and hence able to install Visual
Studio .NET.
Use find in regedit: Use keywords 2914 and .NET
Delete a couple of hundred entries in the registry that
contains these entries. But be careful, only delete when
you are sure the entry was created by .NET framework!
