Hello,

What's the recommended method of allowing user input on a web form with the
aim to save the data back into a database? I've been trying to use a
repeater, but it seems to have difficulty in assigning the textbox text to a
parameter. I've also experimented with a datagrid, but I believe they
require a greater overhead and don't seem to allow formatting other than in
a row.

I'm basically trying to edit an existing record and save the results back
but it's causing me grief.

Any thoughts appreciated.

OK,

I now know that I definitely do not want a DataGrid for my control and
probably do not want a DataList. I'll start a new thread for my follow-up
question.

Cheers

I think we're in trouble if I'm the youngest person posting here :-) Born
in late 1960. So I'd have been a toddler at the time of the Clancys. Though
to tell you the truth it is not a group that you hear of much here. I think
they made a far bigger impact in the States. Here I think they were perhaps
more important in inspiring others. I'd never heard of the first one you
posted so thanks - that's my horixon broadening again.

Hey, *I* have an idea. Any chance of you and Allan hooking up by remote and
performing a duet on You Tube for your adoring fans? :)

Playing piano is a talent that I envied of others. We never had a piano in
my family, but my mother and a brother could sit down at a piano at a bar or
a church or somebody's home and play by ear. In fact, they each taught
themselves to play various instruments. My brother is the one who lived in
Scotland for many years where he studied, worked, entertained musically on
his free time, including singing in choral groups.

So, what type of music do you play, Hardy? I believe the gentle readership
here has a stereotypical idea based on your Usenet persona, but I betcha (I
borrowed that word from Sarah Palin, btw) have some kind of talent that
would pleasantly surprise [us].

Okay, did you know / hear of the Silly Wizard group?

Here's a pretty song of theirs "Golden Golden", which I bet you could sing
and play:

Yeasgh I know of and like Silly Wizard. And everyone of course knows Phil
Cunningham in particular who is a regular on TV here at New Year, on the
Transatlantic Sessions, just with Ally Bain and he presented a series on the
history of music in Scotland just shown last year.

Then we're probably in trouble because I
suspect both you and I fall at the lower
end of this group's age demographic.
