Miffed from being punked out by Bruyneel, Riis, et al.
the race organizers of the Giro d'Italia shorten the
course during the racing with a break seven minutes
ahead of the field.
Giro race director Angelo Zomegnan was heard denouncing
"some directeur sportifs, who are generally used to
driving in air-conditioned cars with the television
switched on." Attempts to reach Zomegnan in his hotel
suite were unsuccessful, his secretary relaying the
information that he was tied up in a meeting.
