PATCH: correct time zone calc in date.rb

Mark J. Reed

11/2/2003 3:25:00 PM

No-one responded to the message I posted about this a few weeks ago,
but here's a patch to fix the timezone calculation in date.rb -
without the patch it calculates the offset from UT as greater in
magnitude than it should be by one minute.

*** lib/date.rb Sat Aug 23 13:03:04 2003
--- /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/date.rb Sun Nov 2 10:22:09 2003

jd = civil_to_jd(*(a[0,3] << sg))
fr = time_to_day_fraction(*(a[3,3])) + i.usec.to_r/86400000000
d = Time.gm(*i.to_a).to_i - i.to_i
- d += d / d.abs if d.nonzero?
of = (d / 60).to_r/1440

I read that too. It was the conclusion of an 'expert' on religion in film.
Apparently he believes, and state television broadcasted it, that Harry
Potter was conditioning people to accept the Zionist enterprise.

I always knew that little bastard was up to *something*. ;-)

Hey - if they want to insist that any portrayal of the
eventual triumph of good over evil is "Zionistic" , I will,
solely in the interests of peace & international harmony,
go along with it.

What is even more interesting for those who will remain
silent is that all the details given by the idiot with this
theory apply to *Xianity*.

The Potter books could never be considered pro-Christian, you twit. Some
strict Christian households refuse to allow their kids to read that
driveling horseshit in the first place, because of anti-Christian dogma and
occult overtures contained in them. You are being really stupid today, more
so than most days.

Actually they are simply assertions. She wants us to spend hours
trying to figure out which passages are referred to if any in Pappe's
"The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine" and then how it is that they are
dishonest. You'll recall that she has yet to reply to the Mearsheimer
& Walt complete demolition of Benny Morris' review of the Israeli
history parts of their famous book. She just moves on to another
series of misreprestntations, this time presented as her own. Morris
is now demonstrably an Israeli whore so she just moves her dog and
pony show to the defamation of another opponent of Israel's apartheid
and fascist policies.

What would we do without the Deborah types? You know, partially
educated and morally deficient. She's so often a sitting duck because
of the nature of her false assertions. Ratner has learned to say
nothing substantive whatever in debates about HISTORY. He's more
poorly educated than Deborah and has no illusions about being able to
survive when in over his head.

Wrong, as usual, Hunter. They are FACTS, as opposed to the drivel
spewed by Pappe.

Now you're being your usual cowardly and backpedaling self, Hunter.
"Spend hours trying to figure out...." You have got to be kidding. At
a bare 300 pages, it takes only a few hours to read Pappe's spew. His
misrepresentations of the facts, and the corrections thereto listed
above, are quite verifiable. Your unwillingness to address the
foregoing is a measure of your ignorance, your hypocrisy, and your
cowardice.

You know, Hunter, for a lawyer, you're singularly obtuse. I already
replied to Mearsheimer's alleged "complete demolitiion". And, FYI, it
wasn't Mearsheimer & Walt. It was only Mearsheimer. And Mearsheimer,
like you, was wrong as usual.

Wrong again, Hunter. The whore here is Pappe. Another is Mearsheimer.
And then there's you, their self-appointed pimp.

Pappe did indeed make the following assertions, which I corrected.
Surely you, having read his book, can easily find the passages.

HHW modus operandi:

Form a conclusion based on emotion and neurosis.
Search high and low for external confirmation of that conclusion,
rejecting any source that contradicts it, no matter how well received.
Once external confirmation is finally found, use it as the bible, no
matter how poorly received it has been.
