Hi to all developers,

Via this post, the FreeImage Development Team wants to announce a new
version of FreeImage (3.5.0).
Attached below is a short FreeImage FAQ, that will provide all the info
you need to use this powerful cross-platform C/C++ image library.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

01) WHAT IS FREEIMAGE
--------------------

FreeImage is an Open Source library project for developers who would
like to support popular graphics image formats like PNG, BMP, JPEG, TIFF

and others as needed by today's multimedia applications.
Some highlights are:
- Extremely simple in use; FreeImage's functions are easy to learn and a

full documentation is provided.
- Fast: the FreeImage functions are as optimized as possible.
- Not limited to the local PC (unique FreeImageIO).
- Plugin driven.
- Multithreading safe; FreeImage works both in single- and multithreaded

programs and works together with all kinds of additional libraries.
- Compatible with all 32-bit versions of Windows, and cross-platform
(works with Linux, Mac OS X and Solaris 9).

Thanks to it's ANSI C interface, FreeImage is usable in many languages
including C, C++, VB, C#, Java and also in common scripting languages
such as Perl, Python, PHP, TCL or Ruby.

The library comes in two versions: a binary DLL distribution that can be

linked against any WIN32 C/C++ compiler and a source distribution.
Workspace files for Microsoft Visual C++ 6 are provided, as well as
makefiles for Linux, Mac OS X and Solaris 9.

02) LICENSING FREEIMAGE
-----------------------

FreeImage is free to the public and ships with full source code. It may
be used both commercially and in your Open Source projects.
The source is protected by law though. This means you have to agree to
the license agreement before you use FreeImage.
You can find a copy of the license agreement at
