updating an Access database using C~

I have a Visual C# .net console app which updates an Access 2002 database - using oledbconection, etc.

This works fine.

What I would like to be able to do is set up exclusive access to the database to prevent its use by another application while the console app is updating it or alternatively be able to detect that the database is being read/updated by another app so that the console app can abort its update process.

Does anyone know if this is possible?
