The city also will enter into a brownfield site rehabilitation agreement with the florida department of environmental protection.

"It basically says we will follow the recommendations that come out of the reports,"City planning manager stella jones said.

That means fort walton beach will be responsible for rehabilitating the property according to the dep's findings.

Soil and groundwater samples taken in late 2011 by pensacolabased psi engineering showed the site has low levels of dieldrin and pahs(Polyaromatic hydrocarbons)Above state standards.The report showed benzopyrene, pesticide and dieldrin concentrations in the soil samples.It also showed lead, pahs, petroleum hydrocarbons and pesticide concentrations in the groundwater samples.

Psi also found a wide range of refuse under the surface at various depths.The items included treated logs, a lead panel, trash bags, tires, oil filters, car parts, rubber, concrete, vegetative debris, asphalt, carpet, metal pipe, glass headlights, clothing and a water heater tank.
