.NET 1.1 Compatibility Issues w/ Vista

Scott L. Robik

I have a new machine which is running Windows Vista Home Premium (64bit).
The machine has been wonderful and a huge improvement over the 10 year old
machine I was using previously which had been upgraded to Windows XP some
years ago. The problem is that my wife has a USB device from GE Supra which
she needs for work. The driver install is requesting that .NET 1.1 be
installed. When I try to install this, I get a compatibility error
suggesting that I install SP1. Trying this still shows a compatibility
error. I've tried contacting MS, but they pointed me to the hardware vendor,
Gateway, as the software was preloaded. When I contact Gateway they say this
is a problem outside there expertise and that I can purchase a premium
service call or take it up with MS. Does anyone know anything about this and
can they point me to a solution? I really need to resolve this in order to
be able to use this USB device which my wife need for her business. Any
help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Regards,
Scott L. Robik

The warning is just that. It's saying you may experience errors when using
the .NET 1.1 framework. When you install it, windows update will detect and
install an updated version (which may be the SP1).

I would install it, and see. If there is too many errors, just uninstall it.
Before you do though, check windows update and see if it updated the .NET
framework.

Don't think that the thousands of miles of coastline from Baja
California to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska are any more defended than the borders
with Mexico or Canada. Chinese probably fill those containers in the
container ships and are brought in with the same frequency as Mexican
trucks full of illegals.
