Dear all,

I hope I've asked this question in the right place and if not, please bear
over with me and kindly tell me where to ask the question or point me to a
solution (I'm new to this forum).

I have problems installing "visual studio team system 2008" - on Windows XP
as well as on Vista - I think it's the same error message I get and since I
already got .NET framework 3.5, it begins by trying to install "MS Document
Explorer 2008" but it fails...

The log message says: h:\setup\..\wcu\dexplore\dexplore.exe could not be
unpackaged because it is not a cabinet.

I'm confused and tried to google a lot but failed finding a solution! Please
help...

It is not a reply but a new post actually. I could not figure out how to post
a new message. One has to select from a dropdown list of about 300 items and
they are not in any alphabetical order at all. I could not find Windows
Server 2008 in there. There is no textbox to enter it manually. This is just
ridiculous. I hope someone will move my post to a separate thread with this
title:

SAPI Windser2008 problem. Here is my text:

I posted this question with a throrough explanation at C# forum but so far
had no response and as a matter of fact very little interest has been
generated. Only one person looked it up. I would appreciate if somebody will
read this post (link is provided) and say perhaps a few words of wisdom.

You're probably using a web-based interface? Underneath that is a new host,
msnews.microsoft.com, and you can use that with a newsreader (I use outlook
express) to get what I think is a more responsive and useable interface.
Then subscribe to appropriate microsoft.public groups. Sorry, can't help
with your issue though.

Alex, I would start by looking at any permission issues or file related
issues by using FileMon from sysinternals.

Next would to be to get the InnerException of all the Exceptions that are
generated. You may not have the debugging tools on the 2008 box, but you
could change your program to systematically iterate through the errors and
log it some place.

After you find it, you can post it either here or a new thread.

Looks like the part that installs the Document Explorer is corrupt. You can
try to install either VS 2008 Team Explorer or MSDN first and then install
VS TFS 2008

Thank you Trevor. I do have VS2008. I mean I am planning to installl it
tonight since I don't really have it on this partition, but on a few others.
I wll check that. I will run it in debug mode. It is a good idea.

How about my other questions. How in the world do you find Windows Server
2008 in that endless dropdown box? I want to be able to start my own threads
from now on.

I got email notification when you posted, was surprised and the link led me
