Windows OPK Ading Branding To Welcome Screen, Welcome Centre etc

Connah

7/15/2008 6:04:00 PM

i have downloaded the windows opk for windows vista and i have used it
before. i have decided to give it another go now and i am stuck where i was
two years ago when i tried it for the build 6000. im now using build 6000 but
want to add sp1 to it. (i know about the article with instructions etc linked
from opk download page).

My problems are i have no idea how i can add my branding into vista. i want
to add images (lets call them oemx.jpg x = a number 1 , 2, 3, etc) to the
welcome centre, welcome screen and in system. (the winkey + pause/break one)

I also want to add 'services' into the welcome screen like the tech guys do
(see the blue circled parts in my image) for things i sell or have to offer.

i have read the opk.chm and the oem quickstart guide thing.

i have come across this section which has caught my attention.

Adding Branding to Windows Welcome
As part of an ecosystem feature, the first page of Windows Welcome is
co-branded by Windows and by the OEM. Policy: OEMs can add the OEM logo to
the first page of Windows Welcome. In a multiple language installation of
Windows Vista, the OEM branding will appear on the Select your language page.
In a single language installation of Windows Vista the OEM branding will
appear on the Select your regional settings page. The following illustration
shows how OEM branding appears in Windows Welcome.
Oobe.xml Settings
The following XML sample output shows the value for the logopath setting:
<logopath>c:\fabrikam\fabrikam.png</logopath> The logopath node must contain
the absolute path to a logo file on the computerâ??s hard disk. The logo file
must be a 240x100 32-bit .png file.

Configuring Activation
On the Activation page of Windows Welcome, users are asked to enter their
product key. Activation is a process that reduces Windows piracy by ensuring
compliance with Microsoft Software License Terms. During product activation,
the product key is matched with the individual computer on which the software
is installed. Windows Welcome validates the product key and verifies that it
has not been used with more than the licensed number of computers. If Windows
Welcome detects a retail installation in which the user has already entered a
key, a volume licensing scenario, or a valid product key in Unattend.xml,
this page will be suppressed.
Unattend.xml Settings
See information about the following settings in the
Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup component in the Unattended Windows Setup
Reference. Microsoft-Windows-Setup | UserData | ProductKey | Key For
information about using Windows System Image Manager (Windows SIM) to modify
or to remove a setting, see Customize a Setting in an Answer File.

Adding OEM License Terms to Windows Welcome
On the third page of Windows Welcome, users are asked to accept the
Microsoft Software License Terms. Policy: OEMs can add their License Terms to
this page by including the License Terms to Oobe.xml. Windows Welcome will
follow the same logic used to locate the appropriate country- and
language-specific Oobe.xml to locate the License Terms file. This enables
different files to be presented based on the customerâ??s language and country
and region selections. The License Terms file must be a Rich Text Format
(.rtf) file. The OEM must release a version of the License Terms that is
localized into each Windows language that the OEM preinstalls onto the
computer. If an OEM fails to include License Terms that are localized into a
language that matches a system language on the computer, an English (EN)
version of the License Terms will be displayed. The License Terms must be
language-specific, but they do not have to be country- and region-specific.
Although the acceptance of the License Terms is not recorded, the Next button
will not be available to end users until the Accept boxes are selected. The
following illustration shows where OEM License Terms appear in Windows
Welcome.

Oobe.xml Settings
The following XML sample output shows the value for the eulafilename
setting: <eulafilename>fabrikam_eula.rtf</eulafilename>[/code]

the only problem is where do i specify the logo/eula files? the location on
my current computer before i create the iso? the new computer? how will i get
them to the new computer? how will i be able to create the $oem$ folder?

2 more questions
how can i create a recovery disk option?
and
is it possible for me to create a key for installing windows (eg.
12345-12345-12345-12345-12345) or will i have to buy one to allow it to
install as an oem version?

sorry about been so new to this but we all start somewhere... cheers
